Bulk Items Collection
The Village of Greendale does not allow residents of multi-unit housing (apartments and condominiums with more than 3 units per building) to use the services of the Village of Greendale Refuse and Recycling Center. This has been an area of frustration for many of us, so we are thankful for this new service from John’s Disposal.
This service offers a pick-up of up to 5 items, once per month, that do not fit in the standard garbage or recycling container. This would include items such as furniture and mattresses. Most items will be clarified when the phone call is made to John’s Disposal pick the items up. If there is something not allowed, their rep will let the resident know and what, if any, options for disposal are available.
Please be sure not to schedule a pick up on the day our lawns are cut, which is usually on Thursdays or the following day if lawns are too wet to cut.
Your community’s program requires residents to call to schedule bulky item collections. Any items that do not fit in your garbage or recycling bins must be called into our office at 262-473-4700; or emailed into . Office hours are Monday – Friday from 8am-4:30pm and Saturday from 8am-noon.
Bulk items are scheduled regularly throughout the month. You may schedule up to one bulk items collection per month. The office will communicate where bulk items need to be placed for collection. This will NOT be the same as the weekly garbage and recycling. The truck that collects bulk material will stay on the road and require items to be within a few feet of his truck.
NOTICE: No items are to be placed at the curb prior to scheduling a collection and when placed for pick-up, be sure they do not block the driving area in your driveway.
Bulk items include, but are not limited to:
- Furniture
- Carpeting (cut into 4 foot sections rolled and bundled together)
- Large cardboard boxes (emptied & flattened)
- Appliances, including those which contain freon
- Automotive batteries
- Tires (up to 2 per month / pickup, maximum 8 per year)
- Drain oil (must be sealed in 1-5 gallon containers, clearly marked USED OIL)
- Antifreeze (must be sealed in 1-5 gallon containers, clearly marked ANTIFREEZE)
- Larger items, such as hot tubs and pianos, must be cut up or disassembled with parts weighing no more than 50 lbs.
- Paint cans (must be empty and dry OR filled with oil dry / kitty litter and completely dry)
- Construction materials (Must be contained in 32-gallon or smaller containers, weighing no more than 50 lbs., with any boards cut down to 4 ft. or smaller lengths)
*All items must weigh no more than 50 lbs. and be easily manageable by one person.
Please do not place the following out for bulk:
- Yard waste
- Hazardous materials
- Electronics
What do I do with televisions?
John’s Disposal can collect televisions for a fee. They are not part of the bulk collection as outlined above. The fee is determined by size and type (flat screen or tube) of television.
