Overlook Lawn/Turf Applications

What is KEI Applying in 2026?

In May KEI applied The Anderson’s Turf Fertilizer 13-0-0 and Escalade 2. The Andersons is a professional-grade, slow-release turf fertilizer that is pre-mixed with Dimension (dithiopyr), a pre-emergent (for crab grass) and early post-emergent herbicide. It provides weed control while helping to green and strengthen established turfgrasses.

Escalade 2 is liquid herbicide that controls broadleaf weeds. Escalade’s product label says it controls over 240 types of broadleaf and woody weeds, including dandelions, clover, thistle, plantain, and chickweed.

In summer, KEI will apply The Anderson’s Turf Fertilizer 25-0-3 along with Escalade 2.

What does 13-0-0 and 25-0-3 Mean?

A 13-0-0 fertilizer contains 13% nitrogen (N), 0% phosphorus (P), and 0% potassium (K). This ratio is known as a straight fertilizer, meaning it is used exclusively to supply nitrogen to the soil without altering existing phosphorus or potassium levels.

A 25-0-3 fertilizer thus contains 25% nitrogen (N), 0% phosphorus (P), and 3% potassium (K). This formulation is a granular turf-grade fertilizer primarily used for lawns and golf courses to promote quick, vibrant green-up and steady leaf growth.

What is a Safety Data Sheet?

Each product that our contractors apply comes with a Safety Data Sheet (SDS). The SDS is a standardized document detailing the hazards, safe handling, and emergency procedures for a products such as lawn fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides. The SDS details how to use and store these products safely. Anyone interested in more details of a product used by our contractors can easily search for the SDS online.

Here is an example of the SDS for The Anderson’s Turf Fertilizer 13-0-0.

Why Stay Off the Lawn After Application?

Herbicides need time to adhere. Walking on treated grass can track the chemicals onto the sidewalk, driveway, or inside, reducing the effectiveness of the treatment. These products can cause skin, eye, or respiratory irritation to people and pets. Pets and young children are more susceptible because they spend time close to the grass and can put their hands or paws in their mouths.

Products containing pre-emergent herbicides (e.g. Dithiopyr) create a protective barrier in the top layer of soil. Walking on the lawn too soon before it is watered in can physically disturb or compact this chemical layer, which can cause weeds to sprout.

Per Wisconsin law, contractors must provide Lawn Pesticide Signs in which includes the date when it is safe to walk on the lawn, i.e., after the chemicals have dried. Generally contractors set sundown the day after application as the date.
