What’s With the Pink Ribbons Around Trees?
Within the last week, you may have noticed pink ribbons appearing around many trees on our property. These designate trees that will have their tree wells edged and filled with mulch (woodchips) once the landscaping season begins in early spring. More trees may be marked soon.
You might recall seeing many green ribbons on trees in the past. Most have been removed, but they designate trees selected to be pruned in the current pruning season.
This year we will be mulching trees and shrubs differently at Overlook Lakes.
Historically, we have contracted to have 2-3 inches of wood chips blown into most trees and garden beds once every three years (at a cost that has grown to be over $30,000). Through our monthly HOA fees, all of us pay into a mulching escrow fund that has been covering this expense every third year. Chips were last blown into tree wells and on flower beds in May 2023, so it’s time for this activity to take place again in 2026.
But this 3-year approach is changing. Starting this year, we will have mulching done every year, with complementing emphases each year. This year, the main emphasis is on trees visible from streets. Some other trees and soil beds will also be treated. But no flower/garden/shrub beds directly adjacent to buildings have been selected to be mulched this year.
If you have a question or concern about a particular tree or soil bed, you are invited to send an email to . Thank you and we are looking forward to a wonderful spring!
