B&G-Grounds News – May 2026
From our committee chairperson
Stump Grinding
In the coming weeks B&G will contract for grinding of tree stumps. Here is the list of addresses and buildings where stumps are. Some will be ground now and some later in the summer. As mentioned above, we are planning to remove select trees this summer and plan to grind those stumps later in the summer.
Here is the spring list of stumps to grind:
- Bldg 28 8975 Woodbridge grind stump crabapple and plant grass.
- Bldg 33 8948 Woodbridge grind stump maple and plant grass.
- Bldg 36 8792 Woodbridge grind stump maple and plant two bladdernut shrubs.
- Bldg 38 8764 Woodbridge grind stump hawthorn driveway far end and plant a tree this fall.
At each site B&G along with it contractor will assess the type of replacement. We hope to have all replacements completed this year. Replacements will be planted either by B&G volunteers or a contractor.
Grass Seeding
B&G is also creating a list of areas that need grass seeded. Some of these areas are former trees, some are areas where the garden bed became too large, and some are where we removed buckthorn. New areas, especially those along the ravine and near buildings 33 and 34, might be completed this fall or bumped to 2027, depending on season, contractor, and cost. Grass seeding can only occur in early spring or fall. It is too hot and dry to grow grass in the summer months.
Here is the list of grass areas to date:
- Bldg 28 8975 Woodbridge, former crabapple tree
- Bldg 33 8948 Woodbridge, former maple tree
- North of Building 24 circle in the grass (long gone former tree)
- Bldg 23 8877 Woodbridge under maple tree ring (to shape the wood chipped area as a circle)
- Behind Bldg 25 8905 Woodbridge along new woods edge (after rock and gravel removed)
- Along ravine SE edge, Bldg 34 8876 Woodbridge, former buckthorn area
- Along ravine South edge on Woodbridge, former buckthorn area
- Bldg 33 8946 Woodbridge, east side of building along ravine edge, former buckthorn area
Contractor Corner
How our landscaping contractors are keeping our property healthy and beautiful.
This summer our tree contractor, SavATree, will be removing and pruning select trees. The list below is the culmination of collaboration between our B&G volunteers and SavATree.
The next step is to finalize a contractor to grind the stumps. Then B&G will assess if grass, shrub, or another tree should be planted in that location by either volunteers or a contractor. Some of those plantings may happen in 2026; however it is more likely replacements will occur in 2027.
Here is the summer 2026 list from SavATree’s contract:
8876 Woodbridge Dr Bldg 34
- Apple, left of drive: Remove deadwood 1″ diameter and larger. Remove low trunk sprouts.
- Buckthorn, left of drive near Apple: Remove the multi-stemmed tree and cut stump low, haul all debris.
